Alick Siu has passed away and it brings me great sadness knowing his family and friends shall also miss him greatly.

Alick Siu has passed away and it brings me great sadness knowing his family and friends shall also miss him greatly.

One time during dinner we shared the choices we made in our personal lives, and he told me how he and his wife Winnie got married; and from that I caught a glimpse of why Alick can be so lovingly stubborn the way he is on some issues, while on other issues he appears so flexible and accommodating to other’s wishes.

I pray that Alick is with Jesus now, and I pray his family shall also find peace and comfort in the Lord.

In Jesus’ name I pray

Amen

Alick has always been working hard for the wellness of us.

Noticed that Johnson Tse, another good friend and fellow Board member of CIPRO, had also rested at Elgin Mills in 2005. They are meeting again on earth & heaven. Friendship has no border!
Alick has always been working hard for the wellness of us. Rest? I think one of Alick’s first tasks in Heaven has been to ask our Lord for a 15°C warm weather for us on his funernal day!

I am absolutely shocked to hear of the passing of Alick Siu.

I am absolutely shocked to hear of the passing of Alick Siu. Alick was deeply committed to the engagement of the Asian community in all aspects of community life, and he dedicated a good portion of his life to this fantastic idea.
I came to know Alick during his 6 years as a community member on York Region District School Board’s Equity and Inclusivity Advisory Committee (EIAC) where I have the honour of serving as board lead. Alick made invaluable contributions to the advice that EIAC provided to the Board of Trustees through the Director of Education. This advice centred on helping YRDSB continue to be a school board where ALL students feel safe, welcomed, and included regardless of their social identity.
I also attended several community engagement sessions organized by Alick at the Markham Civic Centre. These sessions always had the goal trumpeting the value of being engaged the community.
I know that this is a very difficult time for Alick’s family, and I ask them to take some comfort in knowing that Alick lived a life in service of others and of the community.
I offer my deepest condolences to Alick’s family and his many friends

My sincerest condolences to Alick’s family on the news of his passing, he was taken from this world far too soon.

My sincerest condolences to Alick’s family on the news of his passing, he was taken from this world far too soon.

I first met Alick as a new member of the Markham Public Library Board and immediately impressed by his passion and dedication for literacy and the arts. As Chair of our Board, Alick lead a number of key initiatives and supported younger board members by encouraged them to be more actively involved at the board level and within the local community.

I will forever remember our conversations around public policy, the status of local politics and his overall zest for life. His quest to make our community an ever better place to live, work and play will not be forgotten.

Alick was a true community champion and he will be sorely missed by many. Thank you for helping to blaze a trail for many younger Chinese Canadians, including myself.

May you rest in peace, my friend. Until we meet again.

Hi Alick:
I was so shocked and sad to learn about your departure. I did not have a chance to say goodbye. But sure we’ll meet someday up there. It’s a big loss to your family and our community. I enjoyed very much working with you since my early days in high tech PR when you were president of a computer association. I appreciate the opportunities you brought me helping the community, rallying and coaching candidates to share the minority voice in politics and making our society a better place. Your selflessness and positive energy are highly admired and will be remembered.
Joining the team of FM105.9, we’ll sure continue your wish in making a positive influence on our society and building a culture that embraces diversity, inclusion and equity.
Rest in peace.

Alick Siu, a good friend whom I called “brother”.

Alick Siu, a good friend whom I called “brother”. Alick has always been very engaged in the community and promoting civic engagement. I still remember when I first ran for office, he invited me to his Civic Engagement forum where we discussed a wide range of community issues. Alick impressed me as someone with deep knowledge on different issues and his passion for civic engagement. We also led and addressed issues which matter to City of Markham, such as No Casino Markham, Say YES to York, and most recently Canadians Against Racism. When we work together, we may agree or disagree on different things but what’s really cool about Alick is that he is very open minded and allowed open discussions. He is also a man of his word. When he committed to a task, he would make sure to get it done no matter how busy he is.
But Alick’s community involvement was not limited to these. He was on the City of Markham Library Board, Markham Arts Council as Vice Chair and served for the maximum of 6 years, York Region District School Board, Unionville Rate Payers Association, Markham PLA and everything else. The number of boards he sat on is too long to list them all here. His extensive community engagement made him an iconic figure in the Chinese Community and set a great example to many Chinese who want to get involved in the community.
For years, Alick has provided valuable insights and advice to many who want to be involved in politics. His influence and dedication to community work has become a great role model for many to follow. He never look for any recognition, nor fame nor any superficial values. Over the years, I have witnessed Alick’s selfless work for the community and I am proud to call him my good friend, he is like a brother to me.
Alick will be missed greatly. May your soul rest in peace. My sincere condolences to the Siu’s family – Winnie, Michelle & Melvin. Alick has left a remarkable legacy and I know you will be proud of him too.

I’m honored to have Alick as my long-time friend.

I’m honored to have Alick as my long-time friend.
Alick impresses me as intelligent, very capable, approachable, willing to share and with excellent organizing abilities.
We shared lots of memorable moments in university, both as friends and coworkers for the CSA.
Last year, he posted a university photo on my Facebook, reminded me of the tremendous fun we shared together.
I’ll treasure it for the rest of my life.
Thank you Alick for the friendship, experience and memory!
And hope the survivors of his family health and happiness in the future.

Thank you, Alick Siu, for all the work that you have done for your community.

Thank you, Alick Siu, for all the work that you have done for your community. I am grateful to have met you and the opportunities you have given me and others to share with the community. I am thankful to have you as a friend.

You have touched many lives through your media and advocacy work, your work with the library, the school board, the bank you work for, the IT services you provide, your beautiful photography, your lovely gardening, your friends and family. You are a true hero to your community, and I and I trust we all will miss you. You are truly a great leader in many respects, and you seem to know just about, if not, everything: be it IT, technology, gardening, indigenous peoples and the law, diversity, the Chinese/Asian community, family law, community events, elections, local, national and international affairs, you name it, you know more than something about it!

Markham will not be the same without you, but you have been an inspiration to all of us. I trust that Markham is and its future will be better because of you!

Your work will live on through the residents of Markham and likely well beyond.

God Bless and Rest in Peace. ❤🙏

Until we meet again,
Edward
